Prayer on value of time with God

 Read Psalm 90:14-17.
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,
so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad as many days as you have afflicted us,
and as many years as we have seen evil.
16 Let your work be manifest to your servants,
and your glorious power to their children.
17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,
and prosper for us the work of our hands—
O prosper the work of our hands!

Lord, may these few moments provide the vision that will guide my thoughts and actions through this day.  As a drop of dye can color a pool, I want this small piece of the day to shape the rest of it.

I have tasks to do today that demand and deserve my total concentration.  If I give them less than that, I will not do them well.

I will meet people who, in the time I spend with them, deserve my full attention.  If I give them less than that, I will fall short of that for which love calls.

These tasks and relationships are the setting in which I serve you, but while I am engaged in them you may not be in my conscious thoughts, and I trust you do not expect them to be.

What you expect and what I need is that there be this portion of my day that belongs entirely to you, when my only intention is to be open to your presence.  To feel your love upholding me, to feel your will as made known in the life and teachings of Jesus beckoning me.

As best I can, I offer you now a quiet landing place.  Amen.
